Blanche Lark Christerson, J.D., LL.M. (Taxation)
Managing Director, Deutsche Bank Wealth Management
Author of Tax Topics, a regular commentary on current legislation and other tax issues
Last year’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is the most sweeping tax legislation since 1986, and affects taxpayers of all stripes, including businesses and individuals. Although most of the business provisions are permanent, the individual provisions are generally temporary, and run from 2018 through 2025. This session will discuss a number of these individual provisions, particularly as they pertain to the limitation of the state and local tax deduction, charitable giving, 529 plans, and estate planning (with an eye to New York concerns).
Learning Objectives:
- Overview of individual provisions in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
- Key points for individuals (e.g., SALT, mortgage interest, charitable contributions and 529 plans)
- Post-Act planning – an $11+ million estate tax exclusion, but New York still a factor
